Scrabble

Have you ever gotten that feeling where you are really, really......I don't know, like, excited or something? Like you really want to do something to help or make things better? You're all pumped up to save the world or bring water to Africa or cure cancer. It's like this ethereal anticipation and you know that good's gonna happen and that you're gonna make it happen. And then you look around your room and can hear your mother's voice in your head: "Oh, sure, you'll save the world from global warming but you won't pick up your dirty socks? You can't be a philanthropist if you don't have clean socks to wear, it's not hygienic!"

Olympic Fever

Conversation with A.P. while she is sitting upside down on the couch(legs on back of couch, head off seat)-
Rosa: What are you doing?
A.P.: Training for the Olympics. I'm a gymnast.
Rosa: (snort)You can't be a gymnast, you're not short.
A.P.: Fine. I'll be a swimmer.
Rosa: Your shoulders aren't wide enough.
A.P.: How about track?
Rosa(being totally racist): Hate to break it to you, but your'e not black.......I know you'll be an equestrian!
A.P.: (grins) That'll work.

Heavy Stuff

This is how deep theological talks with my brother usually go:
Brother (looking at night sky while on walk with sister and father): I wish we could see the stars up close.
H.R.: Mmm.
Brother: I bet we will in heaven.
H.R.: What?
Brother:You know, in heaven we'll be able to see the stars up close. I mean, come on, it's heaven.
H.R.: (laughs)
Brother: (sigh) It'll be pretty awesome.
